Italian dominance in the world of interior design
Quality, elegance, and modernity, these three concepts serve to define Italian design, a way of understanding the art of everyday life that has become an international benchmark. Everything that happens in Italy sets trends, and in design, it could not be less.
The differential idiosyncrasy of Italian products led to the creation of its designation of origin, Made in Italy, which has become the country’s brand. Footwear, furniture, clothing, gastronomy products with the Italian seal are guarantee of quality and originality.
Numerous artisan creations with the Made in Italy brand have received international awards, from wines and cheeses to textile products and clothing accessories. To guarantee quality standards and fight against imitations, the producers themselves have created guardianship consortia; Independent bodies and agencies also ensure the authenticity of the articles.
In the twentieth century, during the expansion of Art Noveau, Turin became the main center for the production and creation of luxury furniture and decoration. In the 1920s, the philosophical movement of Italian rationalism gave way to more modern and functional designs with an urban dimension. In the 1930s the Triennale di Milano was inaugurated, an exhibition of design, art, and culture that has survived to this day.
But the real accolade to Italian design came after World War II. The need to rebuild the country led to an explosion of creativity, in which great names in design were involved, such as Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, or Gino Valle.
